J. Edward Shealy – Director of Bands
J. Edward Shealy is currently in his twenty-sixth year as Director of Bands at West Ashley High School. He is a graduate of Newberry High School in Newberry, SC where he was a student of Ms. Lorraine Paris. He earned his BA Degree in Music Education from Newberry College and has worked on his masters at The Citadel and Charleston Southern University.
Mr. Shealy was recognized as Middleton High School's "Teacher of the Year" in 1993 and 1998. In addition to his teaching responsibilities at West Ashley High School, Mr. Shealy serves as the Fine Arts Department Chairman. His professional affiliations include Phi Beta Mu, Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, American School Band Director's Association, South Carolina Band Directors' Association, Charleston County Band Directors Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and is a past President of the Charleston County Band Directors' Association. Mr. Shealy has been awarded the Nathional Band Assocications “Citation of Excellence award twice in his teach career. He is currently the SCBDA State Chairman of the Winter Ensemble committee. Mr. Shealy served as the Lower State Middle School Concert Festival Chairman for ten years and is the Associate Director and Visual Coordinator for the Spirit of America National Honor Band.
Ryan E. Davenport-Assistant Director of Bands
Ryan E. Davenport is originally from Marietta, Georgia. He is a graduate of Sprayberry High School. He earned his BM degree in music education from the University of South Carolina. Before attending USC, Mr. Davenport attended Jacksonville State University where he was a member of the Marching Southerners. During his time at Jacksonville State, he had the opportunity to march with Spirit of Atlanta drum and bugle corps.
Before arriving at West Ashley High School, Mr. Davenport was a band director in Fulton County Georgia for two years.
Mr. Davenport’s professional affiliations include Music Educators National Conference, South Carolina Band Directors Association, Charleston County Band Directors Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Michael Hesse- Colorguard Tech
Mr. Hessie’s performance experience includes being a colorguard member of the ST A Alumn Band from 1984-1986, a member of the Corpsvets Drum Corps Guard from 2002-2006, and a charter member of the 2005 Alliance Drum Corps. He has been a cosmetologist for 19
th years and present is employed at Charisma Salon in
Charleston. Mr. Hesse has been working with the West Ashley band for six years.
Debbie Jordan- Assistant Director of Bands
Mrs. Jordan is a native of Newberry, SC. She graduated from Newberry High School where she was a student of Ms. Lorraine Paris. Earning her Bachelors of Music Education from University of South Carolina and a Masters of Education Administration from The Citadel.
Mrs. Jordan is the Director of Bands at West Ashley Middle School. She has worked with the West Ashley program for 24 years. Middle school bands under her direction have consistently earned superior ratings at state and national events. Recognized as one of the most outstanding middle school directors in SC and throughout the southeast. Her bands have won NAI competitions in Chattanooga and Atlanta.
Mrs. Jordan serves as an active concert band clinician throughout SC, NC, and Georgia. Currently Mrs. Jordan serves on the Executive Board for the South Carolina Band Director's Association as Secretary.
Daniel Pach- Drum Line Instructor
Mr. Daniel Pach is a native of Cheraw, SC. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Biology. He is a Medical Technologist at MUSC's Transfusion Medicine Department. His profession affiliations includes American Society of Clinical Pathology
Mr. Pach was member of USC drumline form 1995 to 1999 and was the section leader in 1999. He was the Drum instructor for Manning High School 1995, Camden High School 1996-1999, Goose Creek High School 2003-2005, West Ashley indoor percussion 2006. This past summer he marched snare drum with the Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps.
Caitlin Patneadue-Colorguard Instructor
Caitlin Patneaude is currently a student at College of Charleston studying Business Administration. She graduated from Rock Hill High School in Rock Hill, SC where she studied flute and piccolo under Joseph Gulledge. She was also a member of Rock Hill’s winterguard under the direction of Ray Fleenor. In addition, Caitlin was a member of Etude in 2006, Independent World Class Champions, directed by Michael Floyd.
Besides participating in guard, Caitlin also assists with South Pointe High School’s colorguard and winterguard in Rock Hill, SC. This is Caitlin’s first year working with the West Ashley Band program.
Matt Boiteau - Unknown
Matt Boiteau is a native of Hartsville, SC. He is currently the band director at St. Andrew’s Middle School. He is a 2003 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Music. He performs with the Southcoast Community Orchestra and “The Forward” jazz ensemble. He is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, national honorary band fraternity, MENC, South Carolina Band Directors Association and Charleston County Band Directors Association.
